inspire oakland

BRIDGEGOOD gives student Creatives the professional resources to discover tech jobs and secure meaningful design careers. Formerly Oakland Digital Arts & Literacy Center, BRIDGEGOOD is a nonprofit organization supported by Google.org.
The Inspire Oakland campaign is an initiative for local artists, and ARTivists to create original designs that answers, “What about Oakland inspires you?”
I found the Oakland Raiders’ fans to be a unique mix of backgrounds and cultures who unite for a common thread. This specific fanbase is especially known for dressing in wild costumes and face paint. The idea of unity amongst East Bay locals and the fantastic extremes that they go to cheer in support gave an exciting idea for a display.
I imagined a derivate of Lichtenstein’s In the Car as a homage to the Oakland Raider’s fans. Lichtenstein’s patent use of bed-day dots were used to give these billboards an interactive perspective, allowing the appearance of solid colors from afar and smaller halftone dots close up.
Designs were featured on Inspire Oakland billboards, bus ads, benches, and digital LED’s throughout the greater East Bay.
